You will start your flying career using equipment from the school or club you're learning with but at some point you'll want to buy your own kit. Most people buy their kit sometime in the second half of their training, it's best to finish the training on your own equipment to gain some experience with it in the school environment.

Besides the obvious glider, you'll also need a harness, helmet and (not necessarily initially) flight instruments. These are described in more detail in the sections below.
